The University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) is a public university in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The university is a member of the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities and the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities. It is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research spending and doctorate production". It is the only public research university in Boston and is part of the five-campus University of Massachusetts system. As of January 2025, the University of Massachusetts Boston offered 239 areas of study across undergraduate, graduate, and certificate levels. These included 68 bachelor's degree programs, 49 master's degree programs, and 30 doctoral programs along with numerous concentrations, tracks, minors, and certificate programs.
